October 12, 2005 - XP Stages of Acceptance

My friend Kevin is a very smart guy. He did a talk that was an intro to XP and one of his slides was "XP Stages of Acceptance":

intrigued
“something about pair programming?”
offended
“no upfront design? will never work!”
dismissive
“i already do most of it already”
addicted
“i can’t imagine not doing xp”

This list came to mind today because it seems Joel is moving from offended to dismissive. Perhaps in a year he'll have an article explaining the technique of "dual coding" that they used on FogBugz 6.0...

Joel sure is taking a long time, especially for a very smart individual. Most people go from intrigued to addicted in less than 6 months, not in over 6 years.

But anyway, it's a variation on:

"All truth passes through three phases: First it is ridiculed, secondly it is violently opposed and thirdly it is accepted as self evident." -- Schopenhauer

Oh, and I agree, Kevin is very smart.
